Question replacing door pins in hinges 1964-1966, tips?

I have a 1965 C10.

I have the parts and the kit to replace the door pins and bushings in the hinges, as it sags a bit.

Do any of you have any tips, tricks or suggestions on what tools to use... the order of operations, etc., for this project?

Thank you for any replies.

I didn't get any replies on here... and why are you so concerned about it, anyway?

Different forums have different depths of knowledge, so I never know who has the best advice. Hence, I ask on all of them.

If that bothers you, go jump in the creek.

I think that drilling them slightly undersized, then using the correct diameter reamer would give better results than just drilling them. Shoot for right around .002" clearance, just enough to get lube in. Any extra clearance will be multiplied down the length of the door, making them loose even if they're new. We just had a set done for a '55 International and that's how the machine shop did it. I'm planning on using an oil/antiseize mixture for lube.

Re: replacing door pins in hinges 1964-1966, tips?

Well, I finally got around to this today... I could not make the pins budge on the truck, took the hinge off to whack it out, finally got it all back on... and yep, it's out of whack.

Even after I got the hinges off the truck I had the really WHALE on 'em to get them pins to even move. YIKES.

I even lined everything back up with the rust/paint marks.

Well, it's back on there and I ran out of light and motivation. I'll mess with it some more this week I suppose...

old trucks... are fun?

right?

did you not have a press you could use? Just beating on them will seriously warp the hinge....

Well, that may be part of the problem... and no, I did not have a press.

I seriously thought how handy a press would have been during this operation.

Oh well, learning as I go...

yeah ask me how I know a press helps.....I ran into the same problem you did.

Thankfully, I have a press at work, so I rolled the truck in the garage for the nite, then reassembled the doors the next afternoon....
