what would be stopping me from taking this vehicle and putting it's 6.0 and transmission into my 79 Blazer? I am trying to learn what I would need to swap to a LSX. I would like to buy a salvaged vehicle like this one is and then just transfer everything over. What stuff would swap and what would I need to buy in addition to the vehicle? I know there are things like the harness that need to be modified, and the ECM needs to be programed, but are there anything else I should get? I am tired of the 6 MPG and I think this would be a good swap and a way to fix the mileage.

Will the hybrid engine work? Check into that, I don't know but if it will looks like a good start to me.

Yeah, I saw the hybrid thing after I posted. I meantime more along the lines of a salvaged vehicle in general. Hybrid would be cool though too.

I think the engines are actually the same; IIRC the hybrid portion is attached to the trans of the transfer case or something like that.
Getting a salvage vehicle for the engine is fine as long as it wasn't a flood/storm or fire recovery.

Pretty sure the engine is the same, but the electronics are going to be different..... Swap it all and make your truck a hybrid?

So it is that simple then, just swap all the stuff? I am not hung up on it being a hybrid, I just want the modern drive train.

Everything besides wiring would be pretty much standard with the rest of the LS swaps. The engine is actually called a 6000 LFA and runs a slightly higher compression, variable valve timing and active fuel management.
You would probably want a different trans, as the Hybrid system basically is PART of the trans. There is an electric motor that "helps". The engine is also whats called an "atkinson cycle" engine, which apparently has different intake valve events, meant to be really effecient but develops way less torque because the electric motor would "help" that portion. The engine also has stop-start so it has a REALLY neat oil pump and better cylinder wall oiling. I say you build the first hybrid 6.0 in one of these....prove to the stupid hippies that we are "green".

It would certainly make my green minded (hippy) wife happier.
If the hybrid guts really would just need to be fit in there and that's it, I may give it a shot if I can get the vehicle for cheap. I do like torque though. We will see what options I have available when the time for the swap comes along.

This swap will be VERY time consuming, And you will be dealing with 300 volt current that the hybrid system uses, You need to be trained to work on this stuff.
Find a non-hybrid to do your swap...If you dont...You WILL wish you did. |

I am willing to bet when the time comes I will be doing a more traditional, basic, CHEAP swap. It's just a neat idea if I had the time and money.
