cruise control - or, what the heck is this!?

Was factory cruise control available in 71/72? (if so, how does it appear on a SPID?)
Or was it a dealer install?
Or neither?

And is this it? (btw, this was on a GORGEOUS 71 C20 at Brother's - was my favorite truck of the show). Anyway - it had speedo cable going in and out of the back.

So, back to cruise (if that's what this is, or even if it's not)...

How was it activated, operated, how did it operate? Anyone still make em or is it just cross your fingers and watch the boards?
Thanks!

I dont know what that particular one is from but I do know you could get them from the dealer. It was for automatics only and was pn 994176. I acquired a factory set-up some years ago that had the servo missing which I later discovered was the same as the early 70's Impala's. I got my servo off of a '73 Impala.

That's not an original setup. Cruise was not a factory option in 71 or 72, dealer addition only and would never be found on a SPID those years. If you do a search of the site you can read a lot of good info about cruise control that has been discussed through the years.

Here is a very informative link http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=136867

Really? If that's true then I stand corrected. I guess I have a dealer set-up. Good to know.

Re: cruise control - or, what the heck is this!?

I heard that GM had warranty issues with cruise control from the 1969 and 1970 models so it was offered as a dealer installed accessory for 1971 and 1972. I had a 70 CST with cruise (still have SPID) and is option K30 - "SPD & CRUISE CONTROL". Will not be on SPID for 71 and 72. Here's a link to a '72 I had last year that had dealer cruise.
