custom delux.i want a dome light and courtesy

I did my share of searching first as always but didnt find a solid answer on this.

my '82 stepside is a custom deluxe.just about basic everything

i want the inside dome light and courtesy foot lights that come on when you open the door or turn the headlight switch over.

this might be a broad question, but how do i go about this? the door jambs have plastic plugs almost as if thats where a jamb switch goes.. but no hole for a dome light or anything.( i wouldnt mind installing a cool overhead console maybe)

any help would be appreciated!

Good luck, I hope you find this out, I have a Custom Deluxe also but I have the dome light, but it only works when it wants to, so I could use this info too.

You should at least one foot well light next to your glove box (Activated by turning your head light switch). Pull out the plastic plugs and install pin switches.Go find a light harness (Orange/white wires). Installing the over head light will be tricky, a surface mounted light or one included in a overhead console.

i can get a harness for this and use it?
headlight switch is the same and such?

the overhead light would be tricky, i guess i could try to fab something or find a nice surface mount low profile led type deal idk.

ive seen the wiring diagrams for the courtesy and overhead lights so i guess that could work.

Head light switch is the same. Remember the light has got to be insulated from the metal. Grounding the circuit activates the light, there is always power to the light.
I mounted my Surface mount light on a small piece of wood so it did not self ground. this video you can see my light on a small piece of plywood painted black. Got it from autozone. You should be able to get the harness from a wrecked truck.

Ya I was digging around the other day and stumbled on my courtesy light. My truck is a custom deluxe as well and until then I thought I was SoL. But I have also put interior trim in my truck and plan on a headliner at some point. Then I will run power from said courtesy light up though the trim and my plan is to run 10 or 12 light LED strings with holes for the light to push through the headliner kind of like a can light in a house. Only on the switch but im ok with that.

hmm good idea. now hopefully i have that light up under there.

that led strip underneath the headliner could potentially be pretty nice, if the holes in the headliner have some sort of metal ring in them(like tarps do)
