Widest tires possible
What are the widest tires possible I can tuck on the rear axle without cutting the axle or frame? What offset rim would I have to have?

Re: Widest tires possible
You'll have to widen your wheel wells but what are you trying to do? Check out the link below though they did narrow the axle some. I don't recall how much but search some of the other builds as this seems to be a common question. You'll need to measure either way to ensure you get the correct wheels that don't rub. Good luck

Re: Widest tires possible
Unless its going to be a "pro street" truck it'll always be light in the back end. Widen the wheel wells but you have a ton of room between the frame and the fender. I should have said that in the previous post. Wide tires are more expensive as well....

Re: Widest tires possible
you can fit a 325/50/15 on a 15x12 @ 8.5 BS. You may be able to go a tad wider with a fleetside (i have a step). Stock width 12 bolt. I am tubbed, but really don't need to be for this size.....i just planned for the future.

Re: Widest tires possible
325, damn. THAT is a set of meats right there. I have 285/40/17's (on 9.5" rim) on the back of my Corvette and I thought those were big for a street tire.

Re: Widest tires possible
The widest I have been able to fit in was a 275/60R17 with a 4 inch drop on a step side.

Re: Widest tires possible
Trimming the bed wood so that there is a straight shot between the inside of the outer fender and the frame, I have 31x18 tires. I had to widen my wheel wells.
I still have quite a bit of room to the frame...

Re: Widest tires possible
Yep. Back in the day, the easiest way to Pro Street a truck was 29 (or 31)x18.50-15 Mickey Thompson Sportsmans on 15x14 wheels on a stock width frame. Very easy to do. Most guys even left it leaf spring. Narrow the housing, buy axles, wheel/tires, and either buy new tubs or modify the factory ones.

Re: Widest tires possible
Since your rearend housing is already narrowed, the best thing to do is put the rear housing at ride height in relation to the chassis with all of the suspension components bolted in place and take all of your measurements from there. I normally narrow the rear housing according to the tire wheel combination and everything mocked up.
