I would find another Vortec short block. TBI engines go forever, but the Vortec does have better power.
As far as the transmission, I had a '95 Suburban with 212K miles when I sold it and a '01 Tahoe with 240k miles and still going. Neither ever had transmission work. The 4L60E will go a long way.
