Bucket seat install?
Before I do some drilling and mounting I have a quick question.
When determining where the slide rails should be located to mount the seat to the floorboard, should the rail be pushed all the way to the back, all the way to the front or somewhere in between? I do find that the 05 Tahoe seats I bought will hit the back window before they hit the gas tank. Any suggestions on the best, easiest way to get these located in the right spot? oh yeah, one more question...... What are you guys using for arm rests?

Re: Bucket seat install?
I made my own rails, but had them slid all the way back. I'm tall, so I set them all the way back in the most comfortable position.

Re: Bucket seat install?
I took the tank out, but I am 6'4". My Cadillac seats are also bulkier than the truck seats. I used the stock rails, but removed the rivets that held the stock mounting brackets on so the bottom was flush, then made my own brackets. I was able to reuse the front outer mounting location, but the rest were drilled.
The seats don't go all the way back, but I mounted the rails as far back as they would go (right up against the raise for the tank).

Re: Bucket seat install?
I will remove the fuel tank one of these days but I am thinking the back of the seat will hit the window anyway.
Thanks,

Re: Bucket seat install?
That's my excate concern: driving with comfortable space. In my case my with my big belly. I would perfer a late model truck seats with intregate seatbelts but space is my concern. My comfortable space is so iomportant that I might ditched the intergated seatbelts idea.
My wife drives 2005 ford windstar and the bucket seats are very comfortable, thinner and are higher than cars seat. My PLan(maybe): 1. get minivan bucket seats with armrest. 2. buy retractabelt seatbelt from MCL($89ea.) 3. buy center console thats unfold into seats(for mykids). This truck has the original steering column, so its long and I will be using this truck as daily driver. So that why my concern is comfortable space. |

Re: Bucket seat install?
I am also moving my wheel closer to the firewall about 2" (away from me) for more room. I don't have a gut, I just like my space.

Re: Bucket seat install?
For my 63 Burb my gut cleared the steering wheel by ~2" with the original seat. I'm going to mount the new seats ~ 3" more back. Then the new middle seat will be pushed back about 5".

Re: Bucket seat install?
My seats are out of an 05 Tahoe.
Got them temporarilly mounted and frankly I think they are too thick. Not teally comfortable but then again not really uncomfortable. I am so use to driving a modern truck this ones seems foreign to me. I do like the integrated seat belts a lot.
