Newbie Needs Basic Info, 1970 C-10
I've begun putting together a 1970 C-10 SWB Step Side. It has a factory V8 and manual column shift three speed. A previous owner decided to convert it to automatic trans but sold it to me before he got too far with the swap. I'm trying to get it put back together as it was built.
I've picked up most of the parts I need locally, but I'm having a real problem with the shifter rods between the trans and the column. I believe I found a post on this forum indicating the rods for the V8 and the L6 are different. I'd like to know if that is the case as well get a little advise about identifying the engine and transmission so I am certain as search this site that I'm finding the correct info for my truck. There is so much great info here, I just need a little nudge so I can find the proper path through it all. |

First of all... Welcome to the board!! Yes the V8 and 6 cyl use different shift rods. the V8 ones are shorter. Your truck came from the factory with an all syncro Saginaw 3 spd. (if you could post a picture of the trans I can identify it for you). The engine from the factory would of been either a 307 or a 350. if you look at the passenger side of the block in the front, just below the head there is a flat machined surface with some numbers and letters, if you can post those up I am sure someone can decifer them for you. |
