Angry 69 gmc sputters and dies when hot

First off i am not a mechanic but am fairly handy. anyway i bought a 69 gmc as a project and have been slowly working on it. previous owner was a mechanic who said engine was rebuilt and running great (now highly doubting that) finally ready to drive and when i get on the road it runs great till it gets hot then starts to sputter almost like it is not getting gas and will eventually die. if i pull over and let sit after about 5 to 10 min it will restart and drive until too hot and does it again. i have now replaced the fuel filter, distributor, fuel lines from carb (real close to block thought it was vapor lock) just ran again today and still doing it! help i am about to scap it and do something else!

Where is your fuel filter, before the pump or after?

There's a similar thread right now about the same problem, do you get the whoosh if you pull the gas cap off after it dies?

Since you live in a scorching climate, this may be your problem: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=516736

ok read your link and going to put a phenolic spacer on it. It is for a 4 barrel edelbrock so the question is 1" or 2" and what is the difference.

Re: 69 gmc sputters and dies when hot

Mine had the same problem. I put on an aluminum intake and rerouted the fuel line away from the upper radiator hose and have since not had a problem. I also used intake gaskets with cross over block offs built in to reduce heat to the intake. I did not use a phenolic spacer but I also have a Holley so it may react different.

IMO I would think a 1" would be fine. The taller they are the more of a tunnel ram effect they give but it doesn't benefit a mild engine.

Don't give up on it. It is how one learns to do things.

Post some pics of your truck.
