what options were available for '67 4x4 ?
hi all..
I'm starting a build on my new (old) '67. It is a 292, 4 speed and as much as I'd like to drop in a nice little 350 into it, my inclination is to restore this guy to it's original splendor. I'm interested in determining what kind of options were available for 4x4s in '67. It has full-time 4x4 hubs on the front, but i would like to replace them with lock-outs if there are some available that will work. If anyone is knowledgeable of what configurations were available i'd appreciate any input/advise. thanks |

Re: what options were available for '67 4x4 ?
Not much for options in 67. Some of them could have been the CST package w/buddy bucket seats, panoramic rear window, speed warning, heavy springs, etc.
If it has full time hubs... I'd start looking at if the chassis is original. I don't believe they had full time 4x4 setups until 73 when the np302 T case came out. |

I think Timbro is saying his truck has the slugs/doesn't have the lock-out hubs option. You coud look for the original Spicers, which could be hard. I think it was Iron Mike who has a never used in the box set of Selectro hubs for sale. It's perfectly acceptable for a truck of this vintage,in an original restoration,to have hubs from an outside company. Afterall, your truck didn't come with lockouts. Most owners ran right out and bout them from Warn,Selestro,Dual-Matic,etc.
These trucks could have the 292 or 327 option with a 4spd option. 250 or 283 were standard with a 3spd.No automatics, yet. There were the Custom and CST trim packages,RV Junior mirrors, tow hooks,a/c,tach,posis,etc. The best thing to do is find '67 sales info from the dealers. A 4wd could get most any option a 2wd could.

Re: what options were available for '67 4x4 ?
No,the case is the same one. This is how all 4wds were originally made, then someone came up with a way to disengage the wheels from the axle so the drivetrain wasn't being turned by the wheels when in 2HI. When in 2HI you are disengaging the front driveshaft, but unless you have free wheeling hubs the wheels will turn everything back up to the transfer case. Lock out hubs were an after thought to save drivetrain wear & tear, gas, and tire wear...as well as power. In a truck with lock out hubs you can drive in 2HI and keep the hubs in "Lock",which would be just like having what Timbro has. With the hubs locked,or having slugs, you can shift from 2HI to 4HI on the fly whenever 4wd is needed, like on patchy snow.

Re: what options were available for '67 4x4 ?
Indeed, mine has the full time hubs, 4 speed, steering, brakes and a/c. Will the newer style Warn lockouts work? As soon as I get the carb feeding gas and get it running on its own, I plan to go through and inspect, service the drive train and try to get everything turning smooth.
