Smokes in 2nd gear

My 65 c10 with a 283 v8 and 3 speed smokes in 2nd gear while crusing/loping along but stops when I shift into 3rd gear, while I'm getting on it, it doesn't smoke as bad on at all. I just installed new valve guide seals and that didn't fix it. Sometimes it doesn't smoke at all. Any thoughts ?

Re: Smokes in 2nd gear

cruising in second gear the engine is at pretty high vacuum, chances are your valve guides are worn out (not the seals) and oil is getting sucked past and into combustion. it doesnt take hardly any oil at all to make a lot of smoke.

I had a 2002tii that would puff oil smoke between shifts and worn valve guides was the culprit.
