pics of my dropped trans crossmember and engine...I don't think the angle is right?

It looks to me that the engine is tilted too far to the rear with the dropped trans crossmember from Brother's. Anybody else think it's angled to much to the rear? The trans tailshaft almost hits the crossmember- and I mean just a 1/16" clearance. This is with a stock trans mount. I'm thinking I need a 1/2" or 1" spacer under the trans mount to bring things back to level. Any thoughts on this?

ya it looks kinda low,,,,if you look towards the water pump,it looks like your fan is gonna be really slanted,,,,,jeff

You need between 2-4 Deg. of angle. If you have more than that then go ahead and shim it. If it falls in between 2-4 then it will be fine.

just curious, whats the purpose of the dropped crossmember? more clearence to run exhaust over it or something?

this is the stock crossmember, i think you are ok, just check the angles and see if its going to work with the pinion ange then shim if you need too, i wouldnt go by looks when it comes to driveline angles.

How do you measure the angle?
What is the reference point to measure against?

with the vehicle sitting at riide height use an angle finder and put it on the flat surface where the starter mounts, you should be between 2-4 degrees. Then make sure your pinion flange is the same exact number but pointing up toward the cab of the truck.

you can get an angle finder at sears,,,$15.00,,, GLEN is correct ,but your supposed to have the vehicle at normal operating weight,,,bed,cab,the 1st measurement should be from the output shaft... heres a link for setting angle,,,, http://www.classictruckshop.com/t4.htm

The easiest way is to put the angle finder on the top of the intake manifold with the carb off. You can also find angle finders at Home Depot.
