Engine installions
I'm going to be installing my bbc soon. How many of you guys have used the carb flange lift plates? It just seems like its alot of weight for the threads in an aluninum intake. I'm running iron heads too. I wasn't worried about my iron headed sbc but, this one weighs alot more.

Re: Engine installions
I don't use the carb lift plates for the reasons you noted. I've had an engine sling similar to this one from PitPal for many years.

Re: Engine installions
The engineers will gladly tell you how each 5/16-24 bolt will hold the weight of the engine if it is inserted at least .375" into the threads of an aluminum intake manifold carb flange and torqued to spec,, but HELL NOOOo I ain't standing under a fully dressed pigblock even if it had a safety chain.
I made a harness from the long tails cut off of of those 20' tie-down's and old seatbelt hardware. Works like a champ,,, bigblock or small.
