Spot weld holes
Ok I'm doing my rockers and cab corners, what size do the holes for the spot welds need to be, 5/16 or 3/16. I'm buying an air punch tool to make all the holes. But the 5/16 punch is like three times the money and I can't find one locally. I can run right up to Steve's and get the 3/16 for 30 bucks. But my buddy who's helping me says I should do 5/16 holes. What do you guys think? I know some of you guys have some experience here. Thanks!

3 bumps in 10 hrs, not everyone lives on the board.
 That said, for the plug welds on mine, I used a 1/4" drill bit (may have been a bit larger) I was just getting metal back on, not a "proper" restoration.

Thanks, although I can do without the sarcasm. I was wanting to buy the tool when I got off work today, so just trying to get some help ASAP. I thought that's what this board was for....

I have a 3/16 hole punch and flange tool . It works fine. However if you are concerned punch them 3/16 and ream them to no more than 1/4. Try the 3/16 first , if you put them a bit closer together thats all you need. just remember to clean both sides of the panel especially if you use a drill. Dont forget to spray on some weld through primer. Have fun Gord

I have to replace my corners too. Where did you get your metal? Also, are there spot welds that have to be drilled to get the old metal off? I have lots of questions about doing this. If anyone knows of a thread that someone has done for this, can you link it. I have done a search and haven't found what I am looking for.
