Swapping cabs

Has anyone here put a cab from a 1-ton chassis on a half ton? Is it a direct swap or are the mounts different? I have a chance to get a 1-ton cheap that has a nice cab that I need for my truck. If anyone has done this let me know. I don't want to buy something that I can't use.

The cab itsself is the exact same as a 1/2 ton, however, if your 1/2 ton is a 2 wheel drive, the cab mounts are not the same. (cab mounts as in the rubber piece...not the metal on the bottom of the cab)

The only thing I can think of is you may have to swap tranny humps, no big deal, they just bolt in. The 1 ton will probably be a high hump, and your 1/2 ton is probably a low hump. Unless it's a 4x4, then it will be the high hump.

The one ton follows the same rules as the lighter trucks do as for the hump size.
Big hump is on 4 speed trucks, big block trucks and 4X4 trucks...all others are small hump. (note that they did not make a 4X4 one ton)

what parts would it take to upgrade a 3/4 ton 4x4 to a 1 ton 4x4

rear axle, and springs. If you have coil, then you need to go to leaf.
Even then, it would have a 3/4 ton frame. So a fram is needed too in reality, but then your bed wouldn't fit, so you need a longhorn bed too.

Longhorn man, don't the 1 tons have cab lights? Seems like they all do to me. Would look unusual on a 1/2 ton.

No, they do not all have clearance lights. It was an option. However, I think the cab chassis version (which would be most of the one tons sold) were required to have them...I'd have to look at the books.
But it was an option on the one ton fleet (longhorn) and the one ton step (9 foot bed) rucks.
Clearance lights were an option on 1/2 ton trucks. I was looking at a 71 cheeyene in the junk yard the other day with them on there.

The trucks with cab lights, they have little raised areas on the roof don't they? What I mean is, the roof panel itself is actually different than non light trucks, it's more than just holes.

Down here in Texas, I've never even seen a C30 that isn't a dually. They must be pretty uncommon.

I see long steps everywhere. I know of about 5 sitting abandoned that I'm sure could be picked up real cheap. They are all C10s though. And, come to think of it, all 69-70s too.

All the long steps you are seeing are the normal 8 foot bed, the one ton steps are 9 foot.
You've probably seen non daulie one tons and didn't realize it.
Although, i wonder what the production numbers would be for daulie verses single tire axles. Hmmm...
