305 to 250?

I currently am running a worn out 305 in my daily. I was going to drop a 283 in it but I just got offered a low mileage 250 inline for free. If I made the swap with the 250 what kind of gas mileage should I expect to get? Is it even worth it? Im running a sm465 and 2.73 rear end

That would worth it to swap it. I actual perfect the inline 6 over the 305. It is going to have more torque than the 305. The mpg may remain about the same.

Re: 305 to 250?

I swapped a 250 with less than 2k miles on it for a 305, and I get MUCH better mpg with the V8. With the 6 I was getting about 7 in my big K20, and the 305 is pulling about 16. Every six my family has ever owned in one of these trucks seems to get much worse fuel mileage than a V8 and a lot less fun to drive. I'd keep your 305 until you could get the 283, just my .02

Re: 305 to 250?

it all depends on the kind of driving you do mostly i just recently sold a 65 c10 that had a 250 inline 1bbl carb though it had a newer model nv3500 5 spd behind it in town i was getting close if not a little over 20mpg but get it on the highway the mpg went down the drain.

and i was running a 3:73 rear end in it
