is it okay to hang 1/2 inch valve from the tank?

I had mine hang off the sides of 2 10 gal SD tanks. There is nearly 1/2" or more or thread into the tank, so its not like its "barely" in there. I could go full lift and dump to slam the rear end and the valves would barely move.
Use liquid teflon, let it dry, assemble. Just check it every oil change because with a steel tank and brass valves, they CAN loosen.
