Re: Long bed coversion to Longbed stepside?
i think 55-87 is the same bed just different fenders/steps. there were long stepside squares. not many, but they are out there.
here is one i tried to buy. there was an issue with the title and frankly i just didnt want to deal with it. it was only $400 and had a 700r4. this is the only one i have seen in person

Re: Long bed coversion to Longbed stepside?
They were trucks for county road workers. A rarity they are. The longbed was long enough to carry fenceposts and road signs. And the stepside part kept the drivers from overloading them

Re: Long bed coversion to Longbed stepside?
Yeah i noticed that the hardest thing to find would be the bed that i want to put on. So I guess that I will start contacting some of my old friends that have like 40 plus acres that collect these old trucks anywhere form 55-80 models to buy one!!

Re: Long bed coversion to Longbed stepside?
ok i found out that lmc truck mag sells them but your looking at about 1500.00 dollars to buy all the necessary parts to get this thing put together. so im deffinately going to start looking alil harder around the junk yards. I want to try to find one that doesnt have the wheel mount behind that ds cab bc they took a chunk out the wheel fender when they designed them.

Re: Long bed coversion to Longbed stepside?
I think I helped that guy with the white longbed stepside get his truck out of a hole in a parking lot near my house several years ago. He dropped the front wheel into a massive pothole, and it was resting on the frame. I went and got my floor jack, and we used it to pick up the low side so he could back out. Slonaker |

Re: Long bed coversion to Longbed stepside?
Im not exactly sure on this question, but i was talking to a local guy here in OKC that stated that he had done up one of these type trucks and said that all he had to do was bolt the bed on and was pretty much it. He was also using duel tanks.

Re: Long bed coversion to Longbed stepside?
Even with these beds the tanks are in the stock location. 16's for short beds and 20's for long's

Re: Long bed coversion to Longbed stepside?
Yeah i don't see a reason why the tanks would be an issue...i have stepped short currently and am running dual tanks from factory. Also to my knowledge you should be able just to bolt the bed down and you are ready to go. As previously mentioned the hardest part will be finding the bed unless you wanna pay an arm and a leg for a new one...
Good luck. Keep us posted. Posted via Mobile Device |
