1960 - 1962 1/2-ton and 3/4-ton Chevrolet & GMC - torsion bar front end, coil springs in rear.
The 1-ton and bigger trucks, had torsion bar front end, leaf springs in rear. 1963 - 1966 Chevrolet - coil springs front and rear 1/2-ton and 3/4-ton. The 1-ton trucks had leaf springs rear, coil springs in front. 1963 - 1966 GMC - leaf springs rear, coil springs in front, 1/2-ton, 3/4- and 1-ton Canadian Trucks, both GMC and Chevy are the same as US built Chevy. [/QUOTE] I was just looking at a 63 GMC 3/4t crew cab that had coil rear suspension . both canadian gmc and chev use the sbc, same as us built chev. otherwise the canadian gmc is the same as a us production gmc. the v6 engine was not used in canadian production gmc ron |

Re: suspension
As for the rear spring setup, Chevy came standard with coil, GMC standard with leafs BUT either brand could be special ordered with the other style. That's why you will find Chevy's with leafs and GMC's with coils.

That is a wives tale. Their advertising stated Leaf rear suspension only and 63-66 order sheets did not have a coil spring option. If you find a GMC with coils it is because the frame was changed out.
