My Valve Expanded.

Where can I get a new Made in USA expansion valve for my '72. I would rather drive in 120* weather with my windows down than to install a chinese/mexican one.

I would move away from the THX expansion/POA valve system. Are you still running the POA valve, Or one of those "cheap POA delete kits"? POA valves DO NOT work well with 134a.

The problem with THX valves is the system has to be perfectly clean, The smallest peice of debris can hang it open. THX valves are used on all kinds of eqipment all over the world...I doubt a "foreign" made one would cause more problems than a "USA" made one. Your worn/rebuilt A6 compressor is most likely throwing trash into the THX valve.

Changing it over to a "Fixed Orifice system" is pretty easy....A 77 Olds 98 evaporator & orifice tube will fit your evaporator case, Use a accumulator for a 77 chevy truck. Get rid of the receiver dryer off the core support. You will need some custom hose work done....The "liquid line" from the condenser to the evaporator will be custom, & the Suction line from the accumulator to the compressor will be custom. Just "rehose" the "discharge" line from the compressor to condenser.

Re: My Valve Expanded.

I'll be watching this !!

I'm going to change my '72 over to a serpentine setup with the newer style compressor.

I plan on keeping it R12. Any tips or pointers are greatly appreciated !!

Re: My Valve Expanded.

Since this was resurrected, I actually fixed my original expansion valve.

The process went like this:

1.Turn A/C on
2.Open hood
3.Tap on expansion valve with Leatherman
4.Enjoy cool air
5.Repeat steps 1 through 4 every time you drive for 10 or 12 times. Worked like a charm.

Re: My Valve Expanded.

I was going to have my valve sent in to be rebuilt before it started working.
