Project Plasti-Dipped Shortbed

Alright so heres the skinny. My dad and I are going to do a couple legs of Hot Rod Power Tour, and he wants Ol' Brown Sugar a little more presentable than what it has been the last few years. So, the plan is to swap to a fleetside bed, do some minor body work, and plasti dip the entire truck. For those of you not familiar, here is a link to a guy that did his entire mustang.

and a guy that did it to his audi

The cool thing about plasti dip is, is that if you scratch a panel or don't like the paint, you can literally peel it off with no harm to the paint underneath. Not that that is the problem with Brown Sugar.

The truck in question...

If the Plastidip doesnt yield desirable results, ill do the satin black paint job that Hot Rod magazine did on a camaro.

Doing a test panel this saturday.

Re: Project Plasti-Dipped Shortbed

Would it not be easier (and possibly cheaper) to vinyl wrap it?

Re: Project Plasti-Dipped Shortbed

Makes me wonder what the price difference would be of just using black primer instead.

Vinyl wrap would be easier, not cheaper. But the results of vinyl wrap are much like a 10k paint job... the "finish" literally comes out picture perfect.

Re: Project Plasti-Dipped Shortbed

Interesting idea but I would lean toward the satin black rustoleum.

Easy to apply and is very forgiving, plus very inexpensive. I spray it on chassis parts all the time with a cheapo $10 HF purple spray gun and it works great. I think I am going to do the outside of my stepside with it this spring.

Check out www.dipyourcar.com for some info.

Just bought some cans for doing up some trim on some of my projects.

Re: Project Plasti-Dipped Shortbed

Yeah wrapping the car with vinyl is not a possibility due to money constraints. After seeing the thread on here with the rustoleum shortbed its tempting. But I'll do a couple test panels with the plastidip this weekend, and pics will follow
