New guy '79 LWB
Hey everybody, I just got a '79 C10 with a built up 350. It's got an auto that's been built up with a B&M ratchet shifter and a 3500rpm stall. I love this big ole hunk of 'mericuh but I just got a couple questions since I've never owned a truck this old before.
But before the questions, here's some pics: One funny questions though, where the hell is the windshield wiper switch? Its not on the column and I cant find it on the dash. I'm wondering if the switch got deleted by PO or what. The truck has windshield wipers so I figure there has to be a way to turn em on. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: New guy '79 LWB
That truck is supposed to be a round eye and has been converted, that includes a different wiper system. The switch is supposed to be above the headlight switch on the dash. Other stock location is on the turn signal switch. If it is not there look for some toggle switches under dash possibly that the previous owner may have added. Look under the hood to see if any wires are running to the wiper motor. Welcome!

Re: New guy '79 LWB
Thanks for the detailed response motomech! Yea, I'm guessing the windsheild wiper switch was deleted since the normal spot for it just has the headlight switch and nothing else on that panel. I guess I should check the fuse box and see where the wires run for the wipers.
But other than that, I'm super excited to learn about this truck. This is my first vehicle with a carb'd motor and I'm trying to do as much research as possible to find out what is actually done to the motor. So far Ive seen it pretty much has edelbrock's catalogue for almost everything. Edelbrock carb(not sure which one), air cleaner, scorpion intake, accel HEI, wires and plugs. Not to sure what heads are on it but I know it has a 502 lift cam. I'm gonna pop off the valve covers today to see what type of rocker setup is in it. Also at some point I have to address the exhaust since it has a couple hacked up sections and is pretty much open headers w/ glass packs. Loud as all hell! :-) I'm not too familiar with c10 suspension so I can't really tell if anythings been done but I plan on lowering it and maybe adding a sway bar. I'd love to have a truck that goes like stink and can hang a corner. Well I look foward to learning about this bad-ass mobile with you guys and hopefully I can contribute in some way when I learn more about it. Thanks for the warm welcome! Here's a couple more pics. Re: New guy '79 LWB
Strange. I thought the 79 was the older looking square? With a different dash in it and a different looking front end. Maybe some looked like the newer squares.

I would double check the vin tag maybe somebody swapped them. Could be a 79 frame and suspension and somebody put a newer cab on it.

Re: New guy '79 LWB
^^ this is exactly what was done. I finally found the windsheild wiper switch, it was just stuffed under the dash but it looks exactly like the one that goes above the light switch. The dash doesn't have the spot for it tho so I'll have to figure out how to make it work without having to jumble under the dash to turn the wipers on

Re: New guy '79 LWB
I wonder if you can find an older dash bezel and mount the switch in the factory location?

Re: New guy '79 LWB
Well I've been havin a whole bunch of fun with this thing, doing burnouts and using fuel like its going out of style. But it seems I've been having too much fun and my gas tank has started leaking pretty bad.
Are there any upgrades in tanks that will fit with little to no mods? Like better baffles/smaller tanks? I don't really wanna go fuel cell since this is mainly a street truck so I'd like an OEM type tank so I can still use the stock gas gauge and filler neck. Also, seems like my local fire department has a pretty mint bed sitting in the back. I'm gonna check it out and see if I can score a deal on it. Posted via Mobile Device |
