Any ideas from you engine gurus?
I am thinking about putting a super charger on my 2 bolt main 350. I got it rebuilt about a year and a half ago. Still haven't reached the 500 mile brake in point. It has....
procomp heads and procomp intake manifold port matched Aluminum Rocker Arms 1.5 Ratio, Edelbrock 1721 - Edelbrock Performer RPM Street Fuel Pumps Summit Camshaft, Hydraulic Flat Tappet, Duration 282/292, Lift .465/.488 holley 750 carb Summit Hydraulic Flat Tappet Lifters Proform Water Pump, Mechanical, Long, High-Volume Also a summit 7qt oil pan w/ high vol pump I also just put in a 3 core aluminum radiator with duel electric fans I have a beefed up 700R4 trans behind it The engine runs like a top HOWEVER.....We all know how these projects go, I have yet again changed the route I want to go with this thing. So any info you guys can give on what I need to put a blower on that will kick it up some more. I am looking to have a truck to drive on saturday nights as well as be able to lite up anyone that wants to line up What blower do you guys recommend? Any other upgrades that I need to do? Thanks for all your help here is a picture of the engine after I dropped it in. |

Re: Any ideas from you engine gurus?
What's the compression ratio? Also, what kind of pistons, rods, and crank do you have?
The Weiand 144 is a nice small blower that would go in easily, and at low boost wouldn't kill a stock rotating assembly. |

Re: Any ideas from you engine gurus?
Is that the only one that will work? I can get a 6-71 or a 8-71 for the same price as a 144 or 177. What would I have to upgrade to run a 6-71 or 8-71?

A significant factor before moving forward are the answers to the earlier post about how much comnpression, what kind of crank, connecting rods and pistons your engine combo has.

Do you want to cut a hole in your hood for the big blower, or do you want a stealth approach? If you want to make best use of any blower, you're going to need a strong bottom end - forged crank, rods, and pistons. You're going to want to get 4 bolt main caps installed - I'd recommend splayed caps. Compression ratio will depend on how much boost you want to run, but 8 or 8.5 to 1 is a good target. I don't know what your cam specs are, but you'll probably want / need to change to a blower grind. There are tons of other questions to be asked / answered - but these should get you started and thinking about just how far you want to go. |

Re: Any ideas from you engine gurus?
Thanks for the replys guys,
after a week and a half of trying to track down the engine builder I was informed that they used the stock crank and flat top pistons because of the age of the engine. He said that putting a blower on it would make it run like cr*p and that if thats what I really wanted I should just look into buying a already blown engine. so it looks like I will be runnin what I got for a while. Thanks for the help. |
