Re: not sure year

Probably your best bet: http://www.oldgmctrucks.com/page0010.html

GMC is a bit different than Chevrolet as far as Vin/Serial numbers go.

Still I'd think a 48 should have a side vent on the cowl, no wing windows, gas tank under the bed and a reinforcement panel behind the seat where the gas would be.

Right, The front sheetmetal is a little different The only part that isn't adaptable is the hood.
gmc trim is also a bit different MY favorite is the trim over the speaker grill
that says general motors truck

The rest is the same

Re: not sure year

i don't have vin# truck been sitting for years...i will be able to get a title when i am ready..anyway i have serial #10122 p 17716...i just got classic truck magazine, there is a 51 looks just like mine...that is why i am questioning ...the grill has 4 metal slots, has gmc emblem, parking lights under headlights, vent below windshield, got 5 windows on cab. also when doing brakes i had to order 51-57 brakes. i ordered 48 brakes and they were different...
