Grinding Starter
The last couple times I started up my 53 pickup the starter would make a grinding nose. After a time or two of touching the floor starter it finally starts normally. I'm assuming it's a result of using the stock 6v starter and I recently did the 12v conversion.
Any suggenstions on solving? |

12VDC to a 6Vdc starter "should" just spinn it faster, does the battery have a GOOD charge?

It could be bad bushings, a starter drive going out or some bad teeth on the gear on the flywheel. At least that is where I'd look first.

I converted mine to 12 volt 12 years ago and the only "problem" that I've had is that I've had to rebuild (new brushes) the starter twice so far. Granted, this old truck is hard to start sometimes, it sometimes has to spin longer before it starts.
