What is the best way to plug and unused fitting on a radiator?
I have a radiator with an unused barbed fitting welded on it. I do not have Air Conditioning right now. How do I plug the barbed fitting safely? I was thinking a hose with a plug in the end of it. What do yall recommend?
Thanks! Posted via Mobile Device

Anything that will keep dirt out will work. When you need A/C work done, let me know. I can you up with my guy. He does all my A/C work.

Naw man I'm talking about plugging it so I can run my engine... Not just keep dirt out. Sorry I should have mmentioned that.
I may hit you up on your AC guy. I may get a vintage air AC setup. Thanks. Posted via Mobile Device

Nice, if you install all the parts you can save yourself some cash. You can just take it to my guy to put a vacuum on it and charge it. Upgrade the condensor for the best results. A cross flow condensor makes a huge difference.

Right now I just need a safe alternative to plugging my extra unused barbed fitting on the radiator. Any suggestions?

I have always seen threaded brass plugs used to plug threaded holes in my radiators. I don't know what you would use if you have a plastic radiator.

Re: What is the best way to plug and unused fitting on a radiator?
What size hose barb are you trying to cap off? Most auto parts stores sell rubber caps that can be used to block unused heater hose fittings on water pumps & radiators. Here are some NAPA part numbers:
660-1693 = 1/2" 660-1694 = 3/8" 660-1695 = 3/4" 660-1696 = 5/8" 660-1697 = 1/2" 660-1698 = 3/8" The sizes are in terms of the corresponding inside diameter of the hose that would fit the barb you're wanting to cap off. The first two part numbers are sold individually while the last four come in packs of two. |

That's a major bummer... Hmmmm... I wonder if I shouldn't just hook a hose from the radiator back to the water pump or something?

That fitting is the return for the heater. I assume you don't have a heater right now?

Me heat, yes I do
Some rads come with more ports then you use Even the caps for blocking of carb ports don't last a year Posted via Mobile Device

Is your radiator brass/copper or plastic?

Re: What is the best way to plug and unused fitting on a radiator?
Nice to know about the fittings lasting a year. We just put a fitting in a plastic radiator of a Baretta, where the plastic port below the neck broke off. Everyone was telling us there was no way to fix it without buying a new radiator. Sorry, but that wasn't happening at the moment when a new car was a week away and the son was keeping the Baretta to fix for show car at a later date when he has the money.
