New Guy Needs Help!

Hello everyone! Im new on here and need to be pointed in the right direction.
I have a 1986 Sierra that was my dad's company truck when I was a young boy. It is in wonderful shape and has only 45,000 original miles on it.
I have it running like a dream and now I'm ready to work on the interior.
I want a new dash. I have read the horror stories of new dashes not fitting so I want to make sure I get the right one. Fortunately I have some cash to spend on a good one. So there you go. Let me have it!
Thanks in advance.

Wow, that's a nice truck. It's nice to see a nice survivor!!

I bought my dash from LMC. Yea, didn't like it. A dash cap may be a better option based on the condition of your current dash. Best fix, repair your current dash it can be done.

Here are instruction on how to change it.

Re: New Guy Needs Help!

Thanks for the help! I think I want a new dash. Tried the cap and didn't get too excited about it. So where do you think I can find a nice new one that fits?
Thanks

Re: New Guy Needs Help!

The best dash you can buy is going to be from dashes direct. Vintage chevy in fremont california sells them and can get it shipped to you for a great price. After hearing all the horror stories about the dashcaps, covers, and low quality replacements I never regret my purchase. The dash comes vinyl wrapped and can be dyed any color you want. But chances are they will have the color you want ready to go that why you wont have to worry about it. Fits great, looks great, direct fit, and best off nothing is better than a new dash. Makes the truck look 100% better.

gmpartsdirect.com , $308 for an OE, can't go wrong with it.

x2 on oem dash. Randy, can you post the GM part numbers for A/C and non-A/C dash so we can all comparison shop? GMPD has sky high shipping/handling charges.

Re: New Guy Needs Help!

Any experiences with classicindustries.com?
And what am I looking for in the description of dashes or door panels to know they are of the highest quality and will fit?
Thanks

Re: New Guy Needs Help!

I don't have part #'s for the dash pad, my catalog just says "ORDER FROM DEALER" on them. The AC and nonAC pads are the same, you just use a different dash molding and instrument cluster bezel for nonAC.

LMC and Classic parts will both have the aftermarkets, the ones most people complain about the fit. Whatever you buy, I'd just make certain it is OE. Last one I bought I got from my local GM parts warehouse, but that was some time ago.

It is a large item, shipping from anyone will be a bit pricey.

Re: New Guy Needs Help!

Poking around I found this. I don't know if this is the correct p/n, but quite pricey delivered from GMPD.

Re: New Guy Needs Help!

Considering list price on one from GM is $634, that's not all that bad really.
