Alternator problem

Im resided the alternator and switched to an internal regulator but the problem is when the truck is turned off the alternator is draining my bettery this issue is driving me crazy! One terminal is wired to the ignition so when the ignition is on the wire is hot... The other terminal is wired directly to the starter can anyone help or make a suggestion??

Also would adding a diode to the wire help?

Re: Alternator problem

You probably have a shorted diode in the alt. Take the main wire off the term in back of thealt. touch it to the term. If you get a tiny spark that is the problem.

Re: Alternator problem

If you single wired it, don't worry about it, it will not drain the battery between driving times, unless you let it sit for extending time periods.

But yes, the "field" is hot all the time.
