Control arm shafts??

What's a good way of telling whether or not the control arm shafts on a 67-72 need replacing? I'm nearly done with the suspension teardown and this seems like the best time to replace them if needed

I'd use a long pry bar, and check everything like you'd check a set of ball joints; jack the front end up so the tire is a couple inches off the ground, then pry up on the bottom of the tire while you, or someone watches the control arm mounting areas, looking for excess movement.

As for whether or not you should do it, up to you. I've never heard of these parts being a chronic issue, but if you're doing a complete teardown, go ahead and do it; I don't remember the parts being too expensive to do it.
