Scored a dealer take off tailgate tonight.

Supposedly left the lot new inside the camper of a '70 and not installed since it was removed at the dealer. It was obviously moved around the garage a little bit but it was stored inside anyway. Has some scuffs and 2 tiny tiny dings. Didn't steal it but was less than a repop. Man the handle works nice and it's STRAIGHT. Polishing up my new gem tonight.

Nice score. If I could find the same deal for a GMC I would be smiling for a week.

Re: Scored a dealer take off tailgate tonight.

Wow THATS what those tailgates are supposed to look like... Mine is so beat that I took it off the truck when I got it and ran it over a few times to straighten it out.

Re: Scored a dealer take off tailgate tonight.

Best deal I got recently was buying a truck and the PO "threw in" a brand new scripted Chevrolet tailgate with the truck...at no extra cost!! I'll take it!!

Re: Scored a dealer take off tailgate tonight.

When I got my GMC it had a funky type lift gate on it and the gut I got it from told me I want that back if you don't mind. I said ok. He said come by my shop some time and I'll see if I can't find the gate that came off that old truck when they put that gate on in 68. ?? it was a new take off gate. He also gave me an extra set of seats for the buddy buckets. Jim

Re: Scored a dealer take off tailgate tonight.

My neighbor was good friends with the owner of the John Deere dealership when it closed. In the late '60's/early '70's the bought 3 Chevy trucks for service trucks. They took the gates off and stood them in the corner. When they closed, the owner gave my neighbor all 3 tail gates ... for free.

Re: Scored a dealer take off tailgate tonight.

I thought I should know what color this is exactly. Asked for a couple pix of the donor truck from the P.O. and got them this morning. Medium gold.
