Re: 75 chevy with a 700r4 trans

Welcome to the site.
First, does the end have an adjustable little set screw? The 350TH and 7004 transmission connect the same way. If so, you can use part #42 from this page: http://www.transmissioncenter.org/70...ometer%20Parts

Information to know about a 700R4. http://www.transmissioncenter.net/700r4.htm

Almost everything you need to know about swapping a 350th with a 700R4: http://transmissioncenter.net/700R4_Swap_Info.htm

Parts for a 700R4 conversion: http://www.transmissioncenter.org/700r4_Parts_List.htm

The calibration he talked about was the TV cable setting for his carb and bracket. You need to make adjustments for your set up.

Set the cable by this method: http://www.73-87.com/7387garage/drivetrain/tvcable.htm

Re: 75 chevy with a 700r4 trans

Couple of things to look for:

IRC in 93 GM switched from 700R4 to 4L60E - if transmission has a round harness plug on a passenger-side of the transmission - it is a 4L60E which requires TCM or PCM to operate and you are out of luck for a simple swap.

If it is older 700R4 with 4 wire plug on a driver side of the case make sure that it has been built with upgraded parts (4L65E) to handle its duties. You'll pickup about 2 to 4 MPG depending how you drive on a highway. The lockup torque converter will require some wiring. The BTO overdrive sells correct TV cable bracket and TV cables. In fact correct TV cable adjustment is paramount to 700R4 longevity - you have been warned!!

Re: 75 chevy with a 700r4 trans

If the 1975 has its original carb then you'll be fine. After 1973 GM switch all the Q-jets to the same throttle arm on the carb as the later cars used which is the same as those equiped with a 700R4. I have a 1974 with a 700R4 in it and there is no reason to change over to any of the aftermarket kits that "fix" the geometry. On earlier carbs, then yes but a factory carb built after 1973....nope.
