front spring cutting question

I have 2 1/2 drop spindles and I just bought some Belltech 2" lowering springs, but I would like another 1-1.5 inches lower. Does anyone recommend cutting the brand new springs or is there another way to achieve it?

Re: front spring cutting question

I would check and make sure that the springs are seated and settled properly. I've had issues in the past where the spring didn't sit in the lower or lower cup properly. If it looks okay, I've cut new springs before. It hurts a little cutting into a new part, but you gotta do what you gotta do. Good luck... jc

More spring more comfort, cutting them will give you a stiffer ride the more you cut. You may want to put it all together ride it and then decide. Once you cut there is no turning back.

Re: front spring cutting question

Have you tried them on yet. Sometimes it takes a while for them to settle. You wouldn't want to cut them to find out later that it is two low when they settle. 6" is vary low watch out for speed bumps and make sure your front wheels will fit.

Cut your stock springs down if you don't want to cut your new drop springs.

Re: front spring cutting question

I cut the the drop springs on my blazer, I am running 2-1/2" drop spindles with 2" drop springs and I cut off one coil. I am happy with the ride.

Re: front spring cutting question

Is the motor in it? If its not you better wait until it is. When I cut my springs I cut one loop from each end rather than both from one end, but that was on my ElCo. I haven't pulled apart my front end yet to find out.

yes the motor is in. I think i'll take the advice and drive it for a week and then decide whether to cut a loop out of them like YBNORML said.

Re: front spring cutting question

As mentioned, drive it for a couple weeks, see if it settles any, as they usually do just a bit. Then cut if it still isn't low enough. The spring rate will increase resulting in a stiffer ride, but sometimes a higher spring rate is desirable on a lowered vehicle since you are working with less travel after all.
