Overheating

i have a 67 stepside inline six that is giving me some trouble. the cabin temp light shows its running hot. I've replaced the thermostat, temperature sensor, water pump, radiator and upper and lower radiator hoses. Still no improvement. I tried running it without the thermostat installed, no improvement. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank you

How does the oil look ?

Try to determine if its truly running hot.I understand there is a new sensor but do you have a thermal gun to shoot the housing or head.Does it show symptons of being hot other than the light?Seems as often as not its a bad reading.

If your fan has a clutch check that.

Thank you for the comments. I just purchased the truck a month ago and the first thing I did was change the oil. Nothing looked out if the ordinary, no coolant in it just real dirty. I don't have a gun to check.. The fan is belt driven and seems to be running fine. The coolant in the radiator is pretty darn hot once its been running for a few minutes. I'm not sure if this could be a factor but the coolant resevoir on the aft wall of the engine compartment is cracked. The previous owner just bypassed it by connecting the lines. I appreciate all the help again.

for a couple of dollars u can buy a good thermometer and take the temp of the coolant// hardware store or the supermarket

I'm quessing you engine compartment looks a lot like this. The heater hoses have be disconnected from the core due to a leak and just looped on the engine fittings. Problem is sometimes these kink and don't flow. If you grab it, it will feel HOT. Probably the first thing to do is disconnect the wire from the temp. sender on the engine. If the light still comes on (engine running) then the circut/wire has a short, turning the lamp on. If not then go to plan "B".

SS Tim it is exactly like that. I have tried disconnecting the temp sender on the engine and it turns off was disconnected. So you do think i need to get a new heater core and run those lines back to it? the hoses like you said are HOT. Thank you Tim. j1970GMC i think it is running lean it has trouble occasionally idling no matter where the chock will be at. its kind of sporadic. That has a direct correlation with overheating? sorry if that maybe be a dumb question. thank you for your help also sir.

Have you radiator cap tested to make sure it is holding pressure.

Double and Triple check your timing. Make sure it is before TDC not after. (My uncle got a free Ford because the dealer couldn't use a timing light.)
