Wood bed kit for 73-87 Wide Box?

I saw pictures before that a friend took at SEMA last year of a squarebody wide box with a wood bed. They offered it as a kit instead of a custom fabrication. Does anyone know what company this is?

No idea on the aftermarket kit, but GM did offer a wood floor in the 8' fleet box. Think cattle.

Actually.....There was a kit installed on the TV show "Gearz" a while back. The install was performed on the short wide square body Stacy named "Project Knuckle Buster".

After searching some more I found the Hurkey show decks and ask him if that was it and he said it was. I guess I'll have to get out the torch and welder.

It also sits on top of the metal floor. When you drop the tailgate you can see that it's just sitting on top and it has a gap along the sides and the wheel wells. It's not what I exactly wood call a wood bed or wood floor more like a wood liner like a bed liner

That is true, and it can just fold up to remove it.

CPA has some kits, and you can buy th strips too. But this one sits on top the metal. I think...

Re: Wood bed kit for 73-87 Wide Box?

That is not the one installed on Gearz. What you see in the picture is a RetroLiner from Bed Wood and Parts (www.bedwoodandparts.com). The truck you see in the picture is the 1rst Dodge Little Red Express they built in 2009 when the Red Express was offered as a dealer installed option. That picture is of that first truck when it made its debut at the SEMA show.

The RetroLiner is available for all trucks with a metal floor such as the 73-87 short fleetside Chevy.

Call Bed Wood and Parts at 877.206.9663 with any questions you may have about this application.

Would a wood bed kit from 60-66 or 67-72 short fleet fit in a 73-87?

Yes, the wood floor was a factory option (RPO E81) from 73-80 in the long fleetsides. My grandfather ordered this 77 with a wood floor and I restored it a few years ago with a kit from Mar-K.

No, the plank width/spacing is different. So are the outer edges where they join up with the bedsides & wheel tubs. Wood kits are available for the 73-80 E81 floor option. But without all of the specialized steel parts that go along with them, I don't think they'd be suitable for someone trying to do a conversion from a steel floor.

You can get a RetroLiner from Bed Wood and Parts for your '87 to give it classic appearance. It installs right over your existing metal floor, and no drilling is required. It can also be easily removed when you need to haul something, using your truck like a truck.
