Power brake conversion problem on my 71

I bought a power brake conversion kit for my 71. After hooking everything up I thought my brake pedal would be easier to push down. However my pedal isn't much easier to push to stop the truck as my old manual brakes. Are power brakes on these trucks suppose to be hard even with a booster?
Anyone have any sugestions why my brakes are still hard to push.

My 71 with pb has always had "hard" pedal. The stopping power is there, but it's just a more positive feel than the mush/grab/lock common to GM cars of the same period. I found it strange when I first bought the truck, but I've grown to like it.

Do you have the booster connected to a good source of manifold vacuum?

Holding your foot on the brake pedal, start the engine. The pedal should drop noticeably as the vacuum comes up.

Cranked truck and the pedal went down, so I guess everything is working normal.
