where can I get a template to put a headliner in a truck that didn't have one?? I would even pay someone who can make me a accurate one. Coop

You could tape some masking paper to the ceiling and trace it, transfer it to a piece of cardboard to make final adjustments and transfer that to some 1/8" Masonite or whatever you're going to make your headliner out of. Should be pretty easy.

not sure if i understand you, but how would that tell me where to drill the holes ???

Hey Coop, maybe I can help. I think it would be really tough to actually make a template as the roof is concave and a non-headliner truck is different.
Here is what I would do...get the headliner and trim, glue the liner up where you want it (the factory glued em up too) and remove all the tabs from the back of the trim and tape it together like it's going to be installed, have someone help hold it in place and put the screws in where they go. I would put some extra screws in it evenly spaced and your done. There would be no weight on the trim so it should work, you could use some adhesive on the trim too just for good measure.

thats a good idea Reno, I'll look into that. I do not have the trim yet. I thought there were clips that held the trim on ??

No "clips", just the tabs on the back of the trim. The Brothers install is correct but seems to be a waste of labor just to get the plastic trim (which weighs almost nothing) to stay in place. Like I posted, extra screws and some adhesive should do the same thing, and you could always go back to the way it was if you wanted to. Can't do that with a bunch of slots cut into the roof

Now if you are building a show truck or 100% resto the extra screws would be a dead give-away that it didn't come like that but I think the roof contours are different anyway. You might be able to get away without extra screws too, just have to try it and see.
Here is a pic of my factory slots (zoom in to check them out, the black is heat absorbant paint)....would be a lot of extra work in my opinion.
I have not done this myself but it should work.

I thought you were making your own headliner, that's why I suggested tracing the recessed area where it fits. My idea won't work for your plan. One thing I might suggest is using some 3M double sided tape instead of glue, might be a little less work than glue. 3M makes some very strong double sided foam tape that might work great. Good luck which ever way you go!
