This weekend my friend found this piece on the local craigslist. The owner didn't know what he had. He had it listed as a 67-72 chevy tach gauge cluster. My friend told him over the pohone he wanted it either way and set up a time to get it. When he went to meet the guy, he realized it was a guy from eastern Ia that he has had bad dealings with before. With that said, this deal went ok and he brought the cluster home. It is a diesel tach, with a 80lb oil pressure gauge, and an air pressure gauge. The cluster came from a C60. What he and I find odd is this: The bezel appears to have never been changed, and it has a provision for choke and the paint is worn off the letters. So either this was a PTO, idle cable, or the bezel was swapped at some point. Some of the gauges have surface rust, but the main concern was this rare tach. Anyone have any input on the bezel tach combo?

Yep, I know it's for a diesel engine. Hence why it shouldn't have a choke provision. Diesels don't have a carburetor let alone a choke.

I was addressing the choke deal. I was under the impression that maybe some diesels were carbureted at one point in time,just off the top of my head. I guess that's just in model engines. Just trying to help.

I am thinking since GM didn't build that many C40/50/60 diesel trucks they did not want to change tooling (more $$) so they used all the same bezels whether gas or diesel and just added one of these.

Did'nt they have a plug over some of the holes to cover some unneeded holes up? Iknow this is light to med duty but my 68 3/4 ton GMC had a choke hole provision in the bezel and it had a plug in it. The man I got it from got it new and said it had been there when he got off the lot. It looked like a round slug about the size of a silver dollar and like maybe 1/2 inch thick. It had threads on it and was held on from behind with a nut. Jim

They very well could have. I have seen the choke add on, but not a delete cover like in the link.

I don't know what I was thinking. Livrat hit the nail o the head. All bezels would have been made the same and automatic choke was an option in 67/68. On trucks with manual choke or diesel they would have had the automatic choke dash cover:

Here is the choke delete in my '68 Custom Sport Truck. If you look close you can see the cover over the "choke" name plate.
