Drop axle difference

Does anyone know if a straight axle out of a 1938 chevy half ton truck will fit in a 51 half ton? If so any mods need to be done?

Re: Drop axle difference

I'm pretty sure that the distances between where the springs center on the axle are different.

Here, Sid's has good info along with being one of the best at dropping a Chevy truck axle.

It looks like it is the car axle from 33/39 that has the wider spring perches. I've got a severely dropped 39 car axle out in the pile of stuff out back that shows what not to do when you drop an axle.
