(warning lots of questions) automatic to manual swap
Ive been wanting to convert my truck from a th350 to a manual shift since I got it but Im wondering what are all the parts needed? I plan on buying a used muncie 4 speed or possibly a 5 speed out of a 90's chevy truck. Could this job be done in a weekend by an average joe like me or is it a tough job that should be done by a professional? Also if I go with the 4 speed what muncie would be the best choice? Whats the differences between the M-20, m-21, m-22? This truck is daily driven on highways and backroads if that makes a difference.
Thanks.

Re: (warning lots of questions) automatic to manual swap
I have done the swap a couple times in 4wds, It is a very straight forward swap, Just make sure you have everything, Clutch pedals, linkage, correct flywheel for the motor you are running, clutch, pilot bushing, flywheel bolts, pressure plate bolts, I think you may need a tall transmission hump, and possibly a new driveline, if you go with a newer tranny since the length may be different.
The 5 speed out of a newer truck may need to have a hydraulic bellhousing which complicates things a little more. Both swaps I have done have been the sm465 and were both hydro clutches.

Re: (warning lots of questions) automatic to manual swap
ok, im kinda bringing this thread back from the dead haha. Well ive still been wanting to do this swap just havent found the right donor truck until today. I was out at a salvage yard and back in the trees was a 68 lwb that hasnt had a part taken off it and had all the manual parts I would need, I think haha. the truck had a 350 and a 4 speed all still in the truck. the question is, would this 68 supply me with all the parts needed to swap a 4 speed into my 69'? I dont plan on using the granny low that is in this 68' but instead use in a muncie or t10. Also in the same yard I found another c10 with a set of buckets that I plan on picking up too if the price is right.

The 4 speed swap is pretty straight foward. That tranny is a heavy one however. Dont forget the 4 speed hump! Did you pick up the buckets?
