Replacement Gas Tank problems?
I put a new replacement gas tank (in cab) in my '72 back in June of '08. it's now developed a leak somewhere... I haven't had a chance yet to pull the seat and take a look, but have any of you seen any problems like this?
It was maybe at 3/4 tank when I noticed the fuel smell which I would think would be below the sender o-ring....

Re: Replacement Gas Tank problems?
hmmm. thought I had it fixed... turns out it has to be a small pinhole on the backside somewhere.

Re: Replacement Gas Tank problems?
so, the new replacement tank I put in in '08 had a stress crack where the "X" embossing is on the back...
the new tank I picked up is much better looking and seems like thicker guage steel as well. and the mount holes seems to line up better as well....

Re: Replacement Gas Tank problems?
Might help others if you mentioned the manufacturers. I know we don't like to disparage but if it turns out that others have had similar problems it may be a good thing for all of us to know. I'm sure the company that sold it would like to know also so they don't get sued for a potentially dangerous situation.
On that note, I bought a Spectra model made in Canada a couple of years ago and have been totally satisified with it. Perfect fit and also solid. The two previous tanks I had bought for my trucks were not as good but unfortunately I don't remember who I bought them from. Too many years have gone by.

Re: Replacement Gas Tank problems?
my new one is a Quanta from gastanks.com Tank was made in Canada.
AS far as where I got my first tank, It was 4 years ago, and have only had good fast service from them, and I would not hesitate to go back to them for more parts (just not the gas tank). I got my first tank from Mane's Truck Parts.
