Help with brakes

My brakes on my 74 Chevy barnfind truck is giving me fits ,I replaced the front calipers and lines several weeks back and all was fine .Then the rear wheel cylinders started leaking so I replaced them and the brake shoes and then the master cylinder went bad. I could not get the master cylinder off the firewall without taking the plunger loose from the brake pedal and the new master cylinder does not look like the old one where the plunger meets the back side. I can not get the plunger loose from the old master cylinder ,any help would be appreciated as this is my daily driver.
