Question Removal of Hanger/carrier Bearing

So I finally broke down and bought a new hanger (carrier) bearing for the split drive shaft on my '86. The rubber around the existing one is BADLY worn - I can move the shaft around probably 1/2".

So, before I start, are there any tricks to doing this? I assume it's not a big deal, but I thought I'd ask. I've had the bearing and shaft down before, but never separated the bearing from the shaft.

i was set to do this on my truck and was told the thing needs to be pressed on and off so until i find a place with a press large enough to accomodate the driveshaft,ive been holding off. keep us posted if ya get it done on your own

After I hammered on mine for 2 hours without result, I took my drive shaft with the new bearing to an axle and driveshaft shop.
The bearing usually has to be cutoff with a torch and the new one pressed on with a press.
Cost me about $20, was well worth it.

What? A shop??? That's almost a 4-letter word around here???

I've heard that it might take a torch to get it off. I've got one of these and might give it a try. But if I have to bring it in to get installed anyway, I might just have them do it all - arggghhh.
