Re: What do you tow.

Back in the day when my grandparents owned the truck, they would tow a 34 foot RV trailer that I would guess to weigh 12,000 lbs. They would tow from San Bernardino to San Diego to the beach for the winter. This route has some good hills to climb-truck had a stock 350 w/ turbo 400 and 4:11 rear, a/c p/s,p/b customcamper20 with the optional overload spring. (now it has a 454 with the turbo 400 and 3:23 rear end). Frame mounted hitch

Re: What do you tow.

What do you all think of pulling a 10k pound (capacity) car trailer with a SWB using a frame mounted hitch with weight distribution hitch and obviously a brake controler?

Currently I use my '03 suburban for pulling duties, but have thought of putting a hitch on my 69. My big concern is the wheelbase, being relatively short for that kind of load.

Re: What do you tow.

Found this after I got home. Will this handle a 2000# camper behind my short stepper??
.
Bolts to bottom of frame rails and bumper face behind tag.
.
I might even have it replated.....

Wink Re: What do you tow.

I didn't build it to tow anything much but with a regular bumper hitch ball I do take the cart to shows with me every now and then. In fact next Saturday I'll have some new pictures of it towing the new cart to a show.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

My son tried pulling a truck on his flatbed trailer with a '67 swb and did not like how it felt when he got over 55 and the trailer started doing a dance behind him.

Besides having a short wheel base the trailer will weigh quite a bit more than your truck.

If you try it start out slow and see how things goes.

Most of the time now we use my '92 K-3500 dually or his 2000 Z71 lwb. Nothing phases the dually, I have it set up for pulling large 5th wheel travel trailers. It does like gas stations though

One thing that may help if you have the helper springs that are mounted behind the axle from the frame.

yeah, it's just an idea.

I do know that the newer jeep grand cherokees have a fairly high tow capacity and have a similar wheelbase and probably a little narrower.

I also have a sway control setup I'd probably use too.

Oh well, in reality I probably won't do it anyways...cause I have the suburban.

Re: What do you tow.

First time towing with my project. Bolted the bumper hitch I had laying around to Home Boy (4/7.5 drop). Hooked up my buddie's jet ski for the long weekend. We had to twist the safety chains quite a bit - and relocate the spare!
