What brand steering gear do you have and like

Ready to replace my worn slow steering gear with a quicker variable ratio or maybe a fast ratio. Probably variable. Which gear company do you guys recomend. Not really lookin for junk yard parts, want something nice and super tight, to stay bolted up for many many years to come.

I've heard AGR makes a really nice steering box in different ratios.

I just put in a Fenco Rebuild in my 71. It is a 3.5 ratio vs. the stock 4.5. Advance Auto has them for a little over a hundred bucks after online discount and core exchange. Bolted right in and has made a world of difference. Lifetime warranty.

Re: What brand steering gear do you have and like

I have my truck (71 c10 350/350) saved as my vehicle on the Advanced Auto web site. When I did a search for Steering boxes it listed that part number SG17501 as a fit for my vehicle. I read the reviews (all good) and saw it was a 3.5 by one of the reviewers. I then did a search here on the forums. A member, Blake B, posted last year that he called Fenco and confirmed it was 3.5 and installed it, again confirming it was 3.5. I have it in my truck now. If you click Z1971 and then click on my album, I have some pictures of the old and new box side by side. Bolted in with no mods and the hoses also screwed right in. It works great.

hey there, just wondering if you installed a new rag joint with the Fenco steering box? if so, which did you use? i ordered the same box last year, along with a new Lares rag joint from Advance, in anticipation of swapping it onto my '66 for power steering conversion...my dad is just now getting around to trying to bolt everything up, & the rag joint won't work...Advance lists two part #'s for the rag joint, but neither seem to fit the shaft on the box...my dad actually ruined the first rag joint trying to make it fit, so they ordered the other part #...after inspection beforehand, it doesn't look like it will work either...the guys at Advance were stumped, & i'm not getting anywhere with the issue

if anyone else has input, please chime in...thanks!
