Cab sound deadening choices.

I have heard a lot about Dynamat, that it is primarily
used as a sound deadener for the sound systems so must be good.
What I want to do is see what else is out there in the market that works, for
road sound as well as heat shield at a "lower cost "
I have never worked with this stuff so have zero knowledge.
What do you all know?
Thanks

I used it in a truck a while back and it did such a fine job I would have to go back to it

Re: Cab sound deadening choices.

I used Second Skin in my DD and will probably use it or Fat Mat for my '70. These options are much cheaper than Dynamat.

Do they make any of that in black ?, I have not bought any of that because I know that "chrome" is going to show up bad under my seat.

Re: Cab sound deadening choices.

There is a vendor here on the board hawking his branded Rhinomat. Claims to be just as good and a lot cheaper.

Re: Cab sound deadening choices.

I have fatmat in the entire cab of my '67 and it works well. It does the job. I have been in cars with dynomat and it seems the same to me. Of course the difference being that one is a car and one is a truck so what difference that makes I dunno. It would be nice to hear earlier poster explain the difference fatmat(less $) vs. dynomat(more $)!!!

Re: Cab sound deadening choices.

I used the remnants of the bed mat in my 69, it's 3/8" rubber. I lined the entire floor with it and glued an 20X24" piece in each door, against the inside of the outer skin. The rubber in the doors made a massive difference, the doors sound very solid when I close them. I have a 3/4" thick mat in the bed of my 72, that alone made a big difference in the over all noise level.

Rubber , sounds like a doable option .
What type of glue did you use to stick it to the doors ?

I used some construction adhesive, applied it to the rubber then stuck it to the steel, pulled it off letting it tack up then put it back so it would grab without sliding down the door skin. It makes a big difference how the door sounds when I close it, the tinny, hollow sound is gone and now sounds like a solid thud.

There is a product for every budget. You need to use the product you are comfortable with. My friend used dynomat, I used fat mat. I'm really disappointed with the sound suppression of road noise compared to his car. I'll be using dyno at on my next restoration. I liken it to NOS compared to LMC.

Re: Cab sound deadening choices.

Ive put both in multiple different vehicles depending on customer cost desires, my only suggestion, if you go with fatmat, get a heat gun to help you roll it out because it is not quite as sticky at ambient air temp, but around 130 degrees rolls out really nicely, both I suggest wearing gloves, and buy a pair of scissors that you can throw away afterwards

Re: Cab sound deadening choices.

I used the Thermocustic from Eastwood, VERY happy with the outcome and cost. It was very easy to install, my only complaint is the sheets are a little big but that was easily fixed with a pair of scissors. Coop
