Buddy bucket (I need to make the back fold down)

I just picked up a buddy bucket set for my 66 and I would like to have the back of the seat fold foward. I'm sure one of you guy,s have done this. Any info would be helpfull.

Question: Do all Buddy buckets have fixed backs.

I can't help you on folding, but I can tell you that some fold from the factory. Mine is also a fixed back and I wish I would have held out for a folding one. I will follow your thread, maybe there is an easy answer. Simply comparing the two styles may be the ticket.

some fold forward, some are fixed back, i have had both. grab ahold of it and yank....if it folds forward you are in luck. if not, they are fixed back.

The seats are the same, but... in 68 with the new DOT mandates the seat backs were welded in place. You will have to cut the weld holding the seatback pretty simple mod. Its on both sides where the back meets the bottom and the bolt hole is already there for the folding portion.

The non-folding ones I have seen were one piece frames.

Heres a picture red circle is the weld to cut. I stripped these down to do the mod before i bought my glide buckets. The whole is where you put the bolt and nylock nut.

Here is a torn down set that folds forward. Notice the bolt in the back. It can be adjusted to stop the seat from going to far back.

Re: Buddy bucket (I need to make the back fold down)

Yeah the pic Brian posted shows how simple it really is just that bent piece of flat stock for the bolt. And the back for the bolt/nutsert is the same just drill a hole and weld a nut for the bolt to thread through. Home depot 1/8 inch flat stock you can bent it with your hands... and about ten minutes presto chango the elusive foldy seats. Seats are the exact same just these three changes.

Re: Buddy bucket (I need to make the back fold down)

Actually you only have to drill one hole the two major ones are already there.

I like the cup holder. In the closed postion does it slide inside or just folds inside it self.

Thanks for the help

Re: Buddy bucket (I need to make the back fold down)

The thing I like best about your cup holder modification is that it is practical for today's beverage containers. I have stayed away from factory cup holder consoles, ashtray cup holders, etc. because the only thing that fits is a 12 oz. can or a small plastic bottle.
