Inline 6 Exhaust
Hey all,
My truck has an ole trusty 250 inline 6 in it. I'm wanting to keep it because its not something you see alot around here. So, those of you that run inline 6's. What is your exhaust set up? I'm just looking for a different sound. Getting tired of it sounding like a jeep.

Re: Inline 6 Exhaust
comes about 2.5in off the motor then it goes into a 2in glasspack ypiped into fake duals with 2 in pipes and 3in slash cut tips sounds good but you can still tell its a 6cyl

Re: Inline 6 Exhaust
I know you said you don't want to sound like a jeep but the only straight 6 exhaust I ever did was on a jeep and I was going for a less jeepy sound too. I had a stainless header high flow cat and a super 40 with a mandrel bent tailpipe. It had a nice deep rumble to it at idle. I had done the header and muffler first with a stock accordian tailpipe and it really didn't sound all that different until I had the mandrel bent tailpipe made later.

Re: Inline 6 Exhaust
Throw some headers with a y pipe flowmaster and 2.5 inch pipe that's what I have sounds tough people think I have a 8 cyl until I pop the hood and their shocked. Oh and go with Stovebolt headers no weld design last forever

Re: Inline 6 Exhaust
Straight pipe on a six? I guess it would be ok in Oakdale.

Re: Inline 6 Exhaust
My Jimmy 4.3 sounds good with a 14" Magnaflow muffler and high flow cat. People sitting in the rear seats notice the tone right away. Some peeps ask if I run a V8. Standing outisde, the 6 cylinder has a nice tone. Try it!! You'll like it!!

Re: Inline 6 Exhaust
I was thinking headers and glass packs and then turning the tips down right behind the back wheels.

Re: Inline 6 Exhaust
I had been messin with my exhaust for years....think I have had all the different options, glass packs, magna flow, flow master, cherry bombs.. Some sound mean as heck, some sound mellow...but almost all had that annoying cackle and popping on the down shift (not something I liked after I restored the truck and it looked all pretty) so I ended up with a set of Dynomax mufflers I really like....not as loud as i had hoped at idle but it sounds mean at W.O.T and no cackle ever! It complements the stove bolt headers very nicely. I am running dual pipes turning down before the rear bumper. Subtle and classy and sounds very throaty...hope that helps.
Posted via Mobile Device No need for an x pipe or a cat.....by the way...that would just add cost and complexity imo Last edited by Bluegrass; 09-06-2012 at 03:56 PM. Reason: Extra |

Re: Inline 6 Exhaust
^ you could have backed out your idle mix screw a half turn. with mine set correctly i get a little popping but i closed it a little more and on hard down shifts it sounds like firecrackers

Re: Inline 6 Exhaust
I had a glasspack on my truck, people used to think that I had a V8 in it. It wasn't too loud.
