Odd oil change

Changed the oil for first time in my 350. It has less than 2,000 miles on it. Stupidly put 10 40 in it instead of 10 30. Making 50-60 pounds at idle now and dipstick is reading way above safe level.

Am I thinking too easy an answer, or is this just getting used to how much oil she wants (or doesn't) after I drain it warm and put in 4 quarts?

Re: Odd oil change

Unless I am missing something, a 350 should take more than 4 qts...

I'm not sure. I have the one that came with crate motor. It can't be correct and if it is, something else is up.

Re: Odd oil change

dipstick could be wrong, i had that problem with a 250. kept hearing a ticking sound from time to time, would kind of come and go depending upon driving conditions. kept checking the oil and it was reading fine. Decided to change the oil and only drained about 2.5 qts out of the engine. just thankful i didnt tear up something else.

After you change your oil, fill it with 5 quarts, run it, shut it off and wait for the oil to settle down and mark the full mark with a center punch.

Re: Odd oil change

That's a good idea...how much pressure should it be making at idle? A bit worried about that, thought I should be looking for 20-30 at 1500 rpm?

How many psi should I be looking for? I'm second guessing myself since my engine is still a pup.

Re: Odd oil change

The pressure all depends on how good your main bearings are fit and the type of oil pump you have. typically 15-30 at idle and 50-80 on the road.
Don't forget that when you change your oil, the 5 quarts I mentioned earlier includes a new filter, pour at least some of your 5 quarts in the filter before installation.
