Value of Truck Diminished if 100% '72 with '70 Cab/Title?

In addition to my Blazer build I acquired a 1970 SWB Project the other day from a guy that had a lot in it but not enough to finish it. Truck is a '70 year model cab and title. It has a '67 Front right now which I'd like to swap for a '72 and do a full '72 look/conversion etc.

I'm gonna be dropping some serious coin on this thing (porterbuilt coil over suspension, show quality paint, built fuel injected motor, all new interior etc). It will be very resto-mod. Not truly period correct but close visually.

Not that I plan on selling the thing when complete but will the truck being a '70 title effect the overall value to a potential buyer if it looks like a '72 from every corner except the paperwork? ie...can I sell a mutt for as much as an AKC purebred lol.

Someone is going to pay what is is worth to them. I am a firm believer that people like what they like...period correct or not. if you are going to slam it anyway....it's already not period correct....Just my thoughts

Yeah if you advertised it as it is, 70 w/72 clip, the haters won't even come look. The guy that thinks it is just badass isn't gonna care IMO.

I personally believe that the whole "numbers matching" thing only applies to a mint, restored, original vehicle. As soon as you start modifying ANYTHING, it will technically affect the value on any collector car. In my opinion our 67-72 trucks arnt rare enough to worry about it, unless you are planning a $50,000+ restoration back to factory original to sell at barrett jackson. If you are modifying it with Portbuilt suspension and period 'incorrect' motor etc, then I wouldnt worry about numbers matching.

I agree with the above statement that if you're gonna slam it, it doesn't really matter. But, if you are already planning on selling it, why not build it as a 70 so that your selling pool includes the haters... When you're trying to sell it, why alienate numbers matchin folks for no reason at all. If you're building if for YOU and you like 72 better, then by all means press - but if you're flipping it - I'd leave it as a 70 all the way around.

OOPS - just re-read - i see you're NOT necessarily planning on selling it (sorry, I misread). In that case - like I said, if YOU like the 72 front end better, then go that route. Now is the time to decide!
