U-Joint help
I have a 1957 chevy 3600 truck that I'm putting 56 1/2 ton axels in. Does anyone know part numbers for the stock U joints for these two trucks. No parts places have been able to find anything for me, they say they both use the same joint. The 3/4 ton caps are larger for sure.

Re: U-Joint help
Did you change drive shafts? If not you will have to use a conversion joint with two different size trunnions on it.

Re: U-Joint help
I'm using the stock 2 piece driveshaft right now. I was hoping to find the two stock u-joints 3/4 and 1/2 ton, so I could get the specs from them and order a speciality u-joint. The truck is a stock 4speed manual.

I'm seeing that the truck takes a Spicer 5-178X with 1.88 cup diameter while the rear axle takes a 5-153X with a 1.062 cup diameter Check for a Spicer 5-460X as that should be the conversion cross that should work. The spicer numbers will translate to any other brand of U joints that have conversion joints. The Neapco number is 11-131050 There is some good info here on id of u joints. http://www.driveshaftspecialist.com/...D%20Guide.html Spicer has a pretty nifty page here that you can ID the u joint that should fit a certain application. That may help other guys with rear axle swaps. Just plug in the doner vehicle info and it gives the U joint numbers and placement. http://www2.dana.com/expertforms/dek350.aspx |

Re: U-Joint help
Thanks very much for all the info. This should save me a ton of time. Can't wait to get it back on the road this weekend.
